PERSIAN CLASSICAL MUSIC

Persian Classical Music is modal, monophonic, uses microtones and based on improvisation.

DASTGAH-SYSTEM

Persian Classical Music and Azerbaijani Classical Music are only the two kinds of music that they are based on DASTGAH system. Each DASTGAH is made of a number of melodies or musical pieces, that they are named GUSHE. Each GUSHE has some special tones like base tone and a mode, that these together make the character of this GUSHE. The first GUSHE of a DASTGAH is very important and named DARAMAD. It means to enter in Persian language. The smaller DASTGAHs (or maybe it is better to say that some of the DASTGAHs) are named AVAZ.
